Apple restored my faith in them

We all remember the fuzz Apple created back in April when they decided to dictate which programming language (and/or libraries, although that part can be interpreted either way) every iPhone developer had to use. I wrote a short blog post about that, read it here.
But here are the good news: Yeah, FreePascal iPhone applications are now allowed in the App Store (as they were before the April-change). All other programming language are allowed as well.
See for yourself:

http://codeclimber.net.nz/archive/2010/09/09/Apple-relaxing-SDK-license-agreement-MonoTouch-and-Flash-officially-allowed.aspx
This step Apple did calls for a bit of celebration (I’m kidding, well… kinda…) and then I will be announcing my first FreePascal iPhone game soon. (Currently I’m working on an Objective-C iPhone game, but the one after that will be a Pascal iPhone game.)
After the April-change I wasn’t really sure if was going to support Apple further (by that I mean renewing my developer account next year and buying new Apple products), but things might have just changed now.
And of course I will be making the second part of my video tutorial series about SDL and FreePascal for the iPhone.

Some updates…

I invested a little time and finally got around porting my little LunarTower game to Linux. Still trouble on Mac OS X, though. On Mac OS X it compiles fine, but as soon as I start the application, I get an access violation. Here is the proof of the working Linux version:
And here is the Linux executable. You need to download the windows + source zip file from my previous Mini-LD post and move the Linux executable into the /bin folder. It should work; libSDL and libSDL_image need to be installed, of course. If it won’t work, let me know, maybe I can fix it.
Things that need fixing:
- Movement of the letters
- Improving damage upgrade
- Making the game more fun
Features to come:
- Improved graphics
- Adding health upgrade (upgrading the tower’s hit points)
- Highscore list
- Game needs a lot of polishing
You can count on a next release in the next two weeks.
I’ve been noticing that a lot of the visitors come from Google Groups and are wondering how well progressed my roguelike is. Yeah… about that… hmm, I don’t think I’m gonna finish before the deadline. But don’t be sad, even if I won’t be able to finish my roguelike in time, I will finish it another time.

This is the first LD entry I finished. It’s a mash-up between Tower from LoneStranger and Lunar Fortress. What you have to do in this game is keeping the evil letters from reaching your tower by clicking on them. It’s really simple and it makes absolutely no fun.
Written in Object Pascal and compiled with Turbo Delphi, but should compile with FreePascal. Also, there are some performance problems. I got around 70 FPS on my MacBook and around 25 FPS on a Intel Essentials D945GCLF2 (Dual-core atom processor @ 1.6 GHz and GMA 950 graphic chip) board. For those who try to play it, have fun.
Here is the link: Download here
P.S.: It took me about 12 hours to finish the game, I had a busy weekend and there wasn’t much time left to polish the game.

Just to clarify: With “for real” I mean I’m trying post updates every now and then and with “we” I mean – erm – me: I’m back.
Let me guess, now you’re thinking what the heck is Freeze.Dev? Well, Freeze.Dev (also known as Freeze Development) is or was a development team of guys mostly interested in game development. Due to the lack of time the team progressively shrunk to the size of me. That’s the short version. I think my motivational skills or lack thereof also lead to this result. By the way, if anyone from the old team wants back on bord, just send me an e-mail. Everyone is welcome.
